In this post, I want to show you how I use ChatGPT Projects to manage real work, rather than treating ChatGPT like one long conversation that eventually becomes messy and confusing.
For a long time, I’ve handled this by keeping separate chats for separate subjects. If I was talking about one topic, I’d start a new chat. If I stayed on the same topic, I’d keep it in the same chat. That approach still works, but Projects makes it far easier because it adds structure.
What ChatGPT Projects Actually Do
Think of Projects like folders on your computer.
On my PC (and OneDrive), I have lots of folders. Some people might think that sounds complicated, but it’s the opposite. Because everything is organised, I can usually find files in seconds instead of hunting around for ages.
ChatGPT Projects work in a similar way. Instead of everything being thrown into “New Chat”, you create a dedicated space for a specific topic, brand, or area of work.
My Example: Creating a “RoyBrettonOnline” Project
In the video, I create a new project called Roy Bretton Online. The moment I’m working inside that project, the conversation naturally stays focused on that subject.
So if I’m writing:
- blog posts
- YouTube descriptions
- Facebook or LinkedIn posts
- ideas and outlines
…it all stays grouped together in one place, which makes life much easier.
Why This Makes ChatGPT More Useful
The main benefit is simple: less confusion and less repetition.
If you run multiple websites, work on different online projects, or create content regularly, it’s easy for things to overlap. Projects help you keep your work separated and organised.
For example, I have different projects for things like:
- RoyBrettonOnline
- Garden Equipment Review
- Wealthy Affiliate
When I’m inside a project (for example Wealthy Affiliate), the conversation stays centred around that subject and I don’t need to keep explaining the context every time.
How I Suggest You Use Projects
If you want to try this properly, keep it simple. Here are a few sensible project ideas:
- Your main website (blog posts, internal links, content ideas, updates)
- Your YouTube channel (video descriptions, titles, pinned comments, tags)
- Your social media (Facebook posts, LinkedIn posts, short promotional text)
- A specific platform you’re learning or teaching (for example Wealthy Affiliate)
Once you do this, you’ll find you can switch between projects and keep everything far more organised.
