Facebook Page Can’t Comment On A Friend’s Post Here’s The Fix

In this video, want to talk about Facebook pages and why you can’t comment on a friend’s post. If you manage a Facebook Page, whether it’s for a business, ministry, hobby, or personal brand, you’ve probably come across this frustrating situation.

You visit a friend’s Facebook profile using your Page, see a post or video you would like to engage with, and decide to leave a comment. However, there is no comment box available. You can often like the post, share it, and react to it, but commenting simply isn’t possible.

At first, it looks like Facebook is malfunctioning or there is a problem with your Page. In many cases, however, the issue may actually be connected to the settings on the profile of the person who created the post.

I recently experienced this while using one of my Facebook Pages and decided to investigate further.

Facebook Profiles and Facebook Pages Are Not the Same Thing

One of the biggest causes of confusion is that Facebook Profiles and Facebook Pages operate differently.

Your personal Facebook profile is your individual account. A Facebook Page is designed for businesses, organisations, ministries, public figures, content creators, and brands.

When you switch into your Page and browse Facebook, you are no longer interacting as yourself. You are interacting as the Page.

This means Facebook can apply different permissions and restrictions depending on the settings involved.

The Problem

While browsing Facebook as a Page, you may notice that some profiles allow you to comment without any issues while others do not.

You can often like the post and share it, but there is no comment box available.

This can make it appear as though Facebook is behaving inconsistently.

In reality, the ability for Pages to comment may depend on the profile owner’s public post settings.

The Setting Worth Checking

If someone is experiencing this issue, one of the first places worth looking is the public post comment settings on their personal Facebook profile.

To check this:

  1. Log into Facebook using a personal profile.
  2. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings & Privacy.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Use the settings search box and search for Public Post Comments.
  6. Open the section labelled Who Can Comment on Your Public Posts.
  7. Review the current setting.

In my own case, the setting was already configured to Public. My suspicion was that the person whose posts I could not comment on may have had a different setting selected.

Testing this is relatively simple. Ask the person experiencing the issue to review their settings, make the adjustment if necessary, and then check whether the Page can comment afterwards.

Why Facebook Confuses So Many People

One thing I have learned over the years is that Facebook constantly changes its layout.

Settings move around. Menus are renamed. Features appear and disappear.

This is one reason why people often spend ages looking inside their Facebook Page settings when the actual setting they need is located within their personal profile.

That was one of the main reasons I decided to create a video about this topic. It is surprisingly easy to be looking in completely the wrong place.

Other Reasons You May Not Be Able to Comment

While public post comment settings are one possible explanation, there are other factors that can also prevent commenting.

  • The post owner may have restricted who can interact with that specific post.
  • The Page may have restrictions applied by Facebook.
  • The profile owner may have blocked the Page.
  • Facebook may have temporarily restricted activity.
  • The post audience may not include Pages.

This means there is no guaranteed one-click solution for every situation. However, checking the public post comment settings is certainly one of the first places I would start.

Why Commenting as Your Page Matters

Many Page owners underestimate the value of commenting as their Page.

Thoughtful comments can increase visibility, help build relationships, encourage engagement, and expose your Page to new audiences.

In fact, I discussed the wider value of engagement in my article on The Overlooked Power of Facebook Comments.

If you are trying to grow a Facebook Page, engaging naturally with other people’s content can be one of the simplest ways to increase awareness.

Creating Content Around Real Problems

One thing I find interesting is that some of the best YouTube videos and blog posts come from solving genuine problems.

This particular issue came about simply because I noticed that I could not comment on a friend’s post while using my Facebook Page.

Instead of ignoring it, I investigated it, recorded the process, and turned it into content.

If you create online content yourself, you may find my article Why YouTube Is Easier Than Blogging interesting, as I discuss how simple observations and everyday experiences can often become useful content.

Final Thoughts

If your Facebook Page cannot comment on a friend’s post, do not automatically assume there is something wrong with your Page.

The issue may simply be connected to the profile owner’s public post comment settings.

While Facebook is constantly changing, checking the setting labelled Who Can Comment on Your Public Posts is one of the first troubleshooting steps worth taking.

Hopefully this guide points you in the right direction and saves you some frustration.
