The title of my YouTube video and blog post is, the overlooked power of Facebook comments. If you run a Facebook Page for your business (or you’ve recently started one), it’s very easy to fall into the habit of thinking the only way to grow is to post more content. Posting matters, of course. But there’s a simple habit that many people overlook, and it can make a real difference over time:Leaving genuine comments on other people’s Facebook Pages (as your Page). In this post, I want to explain why Facebook comments are so powerful, how I use them in a practical way, and how you can build this into a simple daily routine without turning it into a full-time job.

Why Comments Matter More Than People Think
When you comment on other people’s posts, a few things happen naturally:
- Your Page name becomes more visible (even if you’re not posting much yet).
- People begin to recognise you as a real person, not just a “Page”.
- You start building relationships and familiarity over time.
- You create engagement without having to “push” content all day.
This is especially useful when your Page is new and you only have a handful of followers. At that stage, posting into the void can feel a bit pointless. Commenting helps you show up where people already are.
A Quick Reminder: You Need a Personal Profile First
One thing many beginners don’t realise is that Facebook Pages sit underneath a personal profile. You can’t create (or properly manage) a business Page without having your own personal account first.
If you’re still at the setup stage, you may find this guide helpful:
What I Mean by “Commenting” (And What I Don’t Mean)
I’m not talking about spam comments.
I’m not talking about dropping links everywhere.
And I’m definitely not talking about posting the same “Great post!” comment on 50 different pages.
I mean:
- Reading what someone has written.
- Leaving a short, genuine comment that adds something.
- Doing it as your Page, so people see your Page name repeatedly.
This is relationship-building. It’s slow and steady, but it works.
Real Example: Commenting as I Go (What I Do on a Normal Day)
In my video, I show this in real time. My Page is still small, and that’s exactly why this strategy makes sense. All I need to do is to go to my feed, find posts from Pages I follow (or search for someone I know), and leave a simple comment.
I also use Dragon NaturallySpeaking sometimes, which makes it even quicker. I can speak the comment out, check it, and post it.
Example comments I left in the video were short and human, such as:
- Agreeing with a post about practice and consistency.
- Thanking someone for a webinar and saying I’m looking forward to it.
No selling. No links. Just engagement.
Why This Helps Your Page Grow
There’s a reason this works: people recognise names over time.
It’s the same on other platforms too. For example, I’ve been part of the Wealthy Affiliate community for many years, and when you consistently show up and engage, people begin to know who you are and respond to you.

How Long Should You Spend Doing This?
This doesn’t need to take hours.
I mentioned in the video that I often spend around 5 to 10 minutes a day doing this. You’d be surprised how many genuine comments you can leave in a short time.
The key is consistency. A little bit each day beats a big burst once a month.
Choosing the Right Pages to Comment On
Keep it simple:
- Comment on Pages that are relevant to what you do.
- Comment on posts where you can genuinely add something.
- Avoid controversial arguments unless that’s your niche and you’re prepared for it.
If you run a very specific Page (for example, a gardening Page), it’s even easier because people immediately understand what you do when they see your Page name. Especially, if your Page is based on your name (like mine), you may need a bit more content on your own Page, so people can quickly understand what you’re about.

How to Grow Your Facebook Page From Scratch
A Few Quick Mistakes to Avoid
- Don’t copy and paste the same comment everywhere.
- Don’t turn it into a link-dropping exercise.
- Don’t expect instant results after one day.
- Don’t comment on everything. Be selective and genuine.
Make Your Page Easier to Find
While you’re building engagement, it’s also worth making sure your Page is properly set up, with a good username and clear branding. Here are two useful guides that help with that:

Final Thoughts
The main point is simple:
If you want engagement, you have to engage.
Posting is important, but commenting is often the missing piece—especially when your Page is small and you’re trying to get noticed.
Try it for 7 days. Keep it genuine. Keep it simple. Five minutes a day is enough to get started.
