When I first started researching an online business back in 2004, one of my biggest challenges was knowing where to begin. There was plenty of information available, but working out what was useful, genuine and worth paying for was another matter.
I spent money on various products that promised to explain how to make money online. Unfortunately, many seemed to have a piece of the puzzle missing. I would get so far and then find myself wondering what I was supposed to do next.
That experience is one of the reasons I’ve created my free Roy Bretton Online community on Skool. I want to give people somewhere to ask questions, share their progress and learn from practical experience.

Why I Started My Free Skool Community
For many years, I worked on my online projects alongside running an offline business. I’m now working online full time, concentrating on my websites, YouTube videos and affiliate marketing.
Over that time, I’ve learnt through training, practical work and plenty of trial and error. I’m still learning, but I have experience that I can share with others who may be facing some of the questions I had when I started.
My aim is to share things I’m actually doing and platforms I use myself. We can discuss what I’ve found helpful, what takes work and where I’m still testing or learning. I want to be clear about the difference between something I’ve used for years and something I’ve only recently started exploring.
I would have appreciated somewhere to ask those questions in my early days. Hopefully, this community can provide a useful starting point for others.
What You’ll Find Inside
The community focuses on affiliate marketing, creating content and building an online presence. Subjects include:
- Affiliate marketing and internet marketing.
- YouTube and video creation.
- WordPress websites and blogging.
- Facebook, LinkedIn and other social platforms.
- Useful tools and lessons from my own projects.

There are already introductory written lessons on Wealthy Affiliate and Wayne Crowe’s OLSP Academy. I’ll gradually be adding video walkthroughs and further content as the community develops.
If Wealthy Affiliate is new to you, you can also read my introduction to Wealthy Affiliate here on the website. The platform has recently been rebuilt, so some screens in my earlier articles and videos may look different.
My Skool community is free to join. Some third-party platforms discussed inside offer paid products or memberships, which are separate from joining the group.
A Place To Ask Questions And Share Your Progress
You might read an article or watch a video and understand most of it, yet still have one question that stops you moving forward. Being able to ask that question can make a difference.
Inside the community, you can explain where you’ve got stuck, ask about something you’re learning or share a step you’ve completed. Other members may have useful experience to contribute too.
You don’t have to wait until you’ve achieved something impressive before joining in. An honest question or a small piece of progress is a perfectly good place to start.
I’ve written before about why it helps to get around the right people. Having others to exchange ideas with is something I’ve valued in my own online journey.

Why I Chose Skool
I use several platforms, including YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. My website is useful for publishing articles and tutorials, but I also wanted a dedicated space for ongoing discussion and learning.
Personally, I find Skool’s layout clean and straightforward. Members can take part in conversations and find the lessons in the Classroom, which makes it a convenient place to bring those activities together.
I’ll continue publishing on my website and YouTube channel. The community gives us somewhere to carry those conversations further and discuss how to put the ideas into practice.
Who Is The Community For?
Perhaps you’re exploring affiliate marketing for the first time. You might already have a website but feel unsure what to focus on next, or you may want to start creating YouTube videos.
You’re welcome to join at any of those stages. You don’t need a website, a YouTube channel or a fully formed business idea before introducing yourself.
Building an online business takes time, learning and consistent action. I still invest time in learning myself, as I explain in my article about why I’ve continued using Wealthy Affiliate for over a decade. Having somewhere to discuss what you’re learning can make the process less confusing and more enjoyable.
