Are You Posting AI Slop?

Are You Posting AI Slop
Are You Posting AI Slop

The title of my video and blog post today is, are you posting AI slop? There is a growing wave of low-quality, robotic content sweeping across the web. Many call it AI slop — text produced entirely by AI with little to no human thought, experience, or editing. In this article I explain what AI slop is, why it is a problem for readers and search engines, and how to use AI the right way so your voice, credibility, and rankings are protected.

If you prefer the video version, this post accompanies my latest upload on the same topic.

What Is AI Slop?

AI slop is not simply “content touched by AI.” It is content that is copy-pasted from an AI tool with minimal or no human input. It usually:

  • Repeats generic phrases and clichés found all over the internet.
  • Lacks first-hand experience, data, quotes, or examples.
  • Reads as stiff or robotic when spoken aloud.
  • Offers no clear point of view, story, or useful next step for the reader.

Why AI Slop Is a Problem

  • Trust and credibility: Readers quickly sense when a post is generic. They leave and are less likely to return.
  • Search performance: Thin, repetitive content struggles to rank and often gets ignored over time.
  • Platform quality: Communities built for learning and sharing experience are harmed when feeds fill with unedited AI text.
  • Short-term thinking: Churning out volume may feel productive, but it rarely builds an audience or a business.

AI Is a Tool, Not a Writer

Used well, AI can speed up research, outlining, and idea generation. The key is to keep you at the centre of the process. Think of AI as a junior assistant, not the author. Your value comes from judgement, lived experience, and clear explanations your readers can act on.

How to Avoid AI Slop

  • Start with your angle: Write a one-sentence viewpoint before you touch any tool. What do you believe and why?
  • Outline first: Draft headlines and a logical flow. Use AI to suggest missing subtopics, not to write the article.
  • Add proof: Insert your results, screenshots, data, quotes, or short case studies.
  • Write like you speak: Read the draft aloud. If it sounds robotic, rewrite it in your natural voice.
  • Edit hard: Remove fluff, clichés, and filler. Keep sentences short and emphatic.
  • Finish with action: Give the reader a next step, template, or checklist.

Quick Authenticity Checklist

  • Does this post include a personal story, example, or lesson learned?
  • Can I point to a result, screenshot, or data point that supports my claim?
  • If I read this aloud, does it sound like me?
  • Would I send this to a friend or client with confidence?

Evergreen Beats Volume

Instead of chasing output for output’s sake, prioritise pieces that stay useful for months and years. Update them periodically, add internal links, and build topic depth over time. A smaller library of strong, evergreen articles outperforms a large archive of thin posts.

Final Thoughts

AI can help, but it cannot replace your judgement, experience, or integrity. Use tools to accelerate the boring parts, then put your stamp on the work. The internet does not need more noise; it needs clarity from real people who have done the work and can show others how.
