Are You Responding to YouTube Comments?

The title on my blog posts and YouTube video today is, “Are you responding to YouTube comments?” Today’s video and post are a reminder to myself as much as to anyone else. I realised this morning that I have not been replying to YouTube comments as consistently as I should. So here is a quick, practical guide showing where to find your latest comments in YouTube Studio and why replying matters for your channel’s growth and your community.
Why Replying to Comments Matters
- Boosts engagement: Every reply is another interaction on your video, which strengthens overall engagement.
- Builds community loyalty: When viewers see that you respond, they are more likely to comment again and keep watching.
- Sends positive signals to YouTube: An active comment section shows your content is valuable and relevant.
- Good online manners: If someone takes time to write, a short personal reply shows appreciation and respect.
- Light SEO benefits: Comment threads often include helpful phrases and questions that clarify what the video covers.
Where to Find Your Comments in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio for your channel.
- In the left sidebar, click Comments.
- In the middle of the page, click View more to see the full list.
- Use the filters to sort by Published or any held comments if you use that. I keep mine set to Published so everything is visible.
- Work down the list. Read, click Like or Love where appropriate, then hit Reply.
It is easy to miss comments if you only rely on the small notification bell. The dedicated Comments panel in Studio
keeps everything in one place so you can reply quickly in batches.
My Quick Reply Workflow
I often use Dragon NaturallySpeaking so I can dictate replies quickly. The process is simple:
- Read the viewer’s comment carefully.
- Click Like or Love to acknowledge it.
- Dictate or type a short, personal reply. I do not use AI to generate my replies. Viewers deserve a personal response.
- Send the reply and move to the next comment.
Doing this regularly keeps the list short and manageable. If you have a backlog, aim to clear a few each day.
Extra Tips to Encourage More Comments
- Ask a question in your video or pinned comment to spark discussion.
- Pin a helpful viewer comment or your own summary to guide the conversation.
- Thank first-time commenters so they feel welcome to contribute again.
- Reply promptly in the first 24 to 48 hours after publishing, when your video is being tested in recommendations.

A Friendly Nudge
This is a reminder to you and to me. I ask for comments and sometimes the channel receives quite a few, so it is only right to reply.
The Comments panel in YouTube Studio makes it fast, and with dictation software it is even quicker. A few consistent minutes
can make a big difference to engagement and community.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to write long replies?
No. Short, genuine replies are better than silence. If a question needs detail, give it, but a simple thank you still helps.
Should I use templates or AI for speed?
I prefer personal replies. Templates can sound robotic. If you use any helper, customise every response so viewers feel heard.
What if I have a comment backlog?
Tackle a handful daily until you are caught up. Prioritise recent comments on your latest uploads, then work backwards.
