Many people often ask me what exactly is Internet marketing, and it does cover quite a wide range of subjects. Things have changed a lot at how we market a business in the last few years. However, fortunately, by using the power of the Internet, any new business can quickly grow traction if we utilise the the power of the Internet correctly.

It wasn’t until around 2004 that I had my first broadband connection, which to me change the face of the Internet! With the old-fashioned dial-up broadband, it was literally impossible to do anything productive online, apart from sending an email. And that was provided that you didn’t have a large file attachment!

The power of the Internet

I very quickly found that my broadband connection enabled me to achieve so much more online. This made me realise that the Internet opened up literally thousands of business ideas that never existed before broadband. So I quickly started searching for Internet marketing ideas, as I could see it was a key to digital success. Obviously, numerous ideas came up, I won’t be giving to much detail here as I have other posts on the subject within the website.

A Key To Digital Success

Internet marketing has changed how we market; it’s a vital tool for businesses worldwide in the digital age. It’s an umbrella term encompassing various strategies and techniques to market products and services online. This article aims to answer a few questions about Internet marketing and explain its importance in today’s digital landscape.

What Is Internet Marketing?

Internet marketing, also known as online marketing or digital marketing, involves promoting a brand, products, or services over the Internet. Its primary goal is to reach a wider audience more efficiently and effectively compared to traditional marketing methods. I personally often refer to the Internet as man’s best friend; it’s great for promoting your business brand, and it’s great that we can shop from the comfort of our own homes.

Key Components of Internet Marketing

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

This involves optimising your website and content to rank higher in search engine results, making it easier for potential customers to find you.

Content Marketing

This strategy focuses on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing allows us to use platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter helps build brand awareness and engage with customers. My personal favourite is Twitter as I find it very easy and quick to use. I believe that since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the platform has become much better and more usable. It appears that he has great plans for the future of Twitter, or X as it’s now known. I try to avoid Facebook as I find it so cumbersome, clunky, and really not user-friendly. Recently I had my Facebook account disabled, I have absolutely no idea why and I don’t suppose Facebook does! I would avoid Facebook at all costs.

Another seriously underestimated company is LinkedIn, I believe that LinkedIn has a lot of power for businesses. I would say that LinkedIn, used properly has a huge amount of clout and is a much more professional type platform to promote any business.

Email Marketing

A direct marketing approach where customised emails are sent to a targeted list of recipients to promote products or services. Email has always been massive for Internet marketers and a great way to communicate with your customers. Many people will use an autoresponder to communicate with their audience, I personally use Aweber. However, there are many other autoresponders available, but Aweber is my personal preference.

Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC)

This is an online advertising model in which advertisers pay each time a user clicks on one of their online ads. This is a great way to promote your business, however, care does need to be taken when using paid advertising. Google ads are very popular and the great thing is you can set your budget and target a particular area. It’s always good to experiment in a small way with advertising and then grow your campaign.

Lots of social media companies also offer pay per click advertising, it’s important to remember that different forms of advertising work for different people. LinkedIn also has pay per click advertising, it’s something that I haven’t tried yet, but I may try it in the future.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy where businesses reward affiliates for each customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts. Personally, I think this is a great way to carry out marketing as you can promote other people’s products at minimal cost and there are no handling fees to deal with etc. I will have more on this subject on future blog posts.

Here Is How Affiliate Typically Works

The affiliate promotes the merchant’s products or services using a unique affiliate link.
When a customer clicks on this link, they are redirected to the merchant’s website.
If the customer makes a purchase or completes a desired action (like signing up for a service), the affiliate earns a commission. This commission varies depending on the agreement and can be a percentage of the sale or a fixed amount.
Affiliate marketing is beneficial for both merchants and affiliates. Merchants get a wider audience and only pay for results, while affiliates can earn income by promoting products without having to create their own.

Benefits of Internet Marketing

I can remember not many years ago having to place adverts in magazines, newspapers and anywhere where I thought it would be relevant. There was a terrific amount of guesswork involved. However, the Internet has enabled companies to have a website which is really like an online brochure that people can read and find out more about a particular company. The Internet has also made it easy to reach thousands of people and possibly millions, depending on what your niche is. To me, the Internet has made it so much easier for the public to find our business.

Challenges in Internet Marketing

I believe that every business has challenges and even the Internet can bring some challenges. However, I much prefer the challenges that I have now in carrying out business online than the old-fashioned way.

The great thing now is that there are online courses available to help us learn the various different types of strategies. Many times, these courses are available in a video format, which enables us to learn quickly and refer back to lessons at any time. The boffins always say that it’s good to invest in yourself and get trained up. Of course, there are instances when we need to use other people’s services to achieve our goals quicker. We just need to have a balance.

Constant Evolution: The digital marketing landscape is continually changing, requiring businesses to stay updated with the latest trends and algorithms.
Competition: The online space is increasingly competitive, making it challenging to stand out. This is why it’s important to keep learning and to keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the online world.
Skills and Expertise: Effective Internet marketing requires a range of skills, including SEO, content creation, and data analysis. However, the good thing is we can learn these skills call on other people skills to help us move forward.

To Conclude

Internet marketing is an essential tool for businesses in the digital era, it’s also a key to digital success. It offers numerous benefits such as increased reach, targeted marketing, and measurable results. However, it also presents challenges like the need for continual learning and stiff competition. What to do in the Internet marketing world 2019

Today, I’m writing a post about what to do in Internet marketing world 2019, yesterday I wrote a blog post with the title “what not to do in the Internet marketing world 2019”, so today we have something much more exciting and positive!

First of all, from experience, hard work pays off, with any business whether it be online or off-line we have to work hard, I have been self-employed since 1983 and in my experience, I have found the only way to create success is to work hard. I can also say though that is very rewarding when we work hard and we achieve something good.

Evergreen Content Strategy

We are looking for ways to be found in Google and one of the things we need to look at its evergreen content strategy. By this I mean an evergreen tree grows and keeps growing and stays green all year round, we need our content to be found all year round and not to die off as time passes.

We all have to create content for our business, whether it be on a website, social media, a video or even creating an advertisement, it’s all content, without content nothing happens, we need content to be found on the web. So in other words content is an evergreen strategy, that will never go away, remember that content will never go away, it will always exist!

What Evergreen Strategies Work

There are many different niches all over the web, we can literally find any niche on the web, people are searching for information that whatever your niche is, within reason, it has huge potential to be found, in other words, a niche will never go away or disappear.

Keywords will always be used to find our particular niche, we can use a keyword tool to help us find particular keywords for a niche. You can take a look at the free keyword tool that I use to help find the relative keywords.

We can write blog posts on one targeted keyword, not multiple keywords, we need to focus on one targeted keyword. We can actually find potentially low hanging fruit to find that special keyword, my free keyword tool will help you find the low hanging fruit keywords. We need to base our blog post on one targeted keyword, Google no longer likes keyword stuffing, in other words trying to get as many keywords into a blog post as possible, this is a definite no-no.

We need to engage with our audience, this is a great strategy to use and very important. We need to be very real, but can’t hide behind our blog posts, people like to know who they are dealing with so engagement with our audience is very important. Let me give you this thought, would you buy from someone that you don’t know? It’s so much better to show your face and engage with your audience. We can engage with people through our blog posts, through Facebook or a Facebook group, or even through our YouTube channel, in fact, any social media platform helps us to engage with people.

Another good way to engage with our audience is to have comments on a blog, the Internet marketing platform that I’m involved with actually give you comments on your website and feedback, which is something really useful. Something that I always try and do is to reply to people who leave comments on my blog or social media platforms, it’s always good to communicate with people, no one wants to be ignored. It is so important to engage with our readers and followers if we do not engage with them they are just going to go somewhere else, which we don’t want, so you can see the importance of engagement.

Technical Evergreen Strategies

Let’s talk about a few technical evergreen strategies that work and will probably always be around.

The first one is meta titles, these have been around a long time and will probably always be around.

Meta descriptions, this is something else that will probably always be around, some people do not think it’s important but I think it’s great to be able to show the search engines what your blog is about in a few words. A meta description is an opportunity to show our potential readers 155 characters that will encourage them to come to our website, we really need to make the most of this opportunity. The meta description needs to have our one targeted keyword within the description, this is very important. Incidentally, a keyword can also be a key phrase, it needs to be something that people are searching for.

Keep  content above the scroll, this means what we see above the scroll, so in other words what we see before we scroll down.

Internal links, Google likes internal links that link to relevant content within your site. When we link to relevant pages or posts within our website, it is telling Google that we have more content on our website, not just the page that we are on, but other pages too. The only way that Google knows where our content is, is through our site map or menu, so linking to internal content is very important. When Google spiders our website and finds our content and then finds other pages that are linked with similar content, this is a very huge plus point.

External links, these are useful, a good external link to use something like Wikipedia, Wikipedia is a well-proven website and it shows Google you are trying to share genuine knowledge.

Email Marketing

Email marketing will never go away, some people may disagree, but I believe this is the best way to communicate with our customers and potentially make sales in a good way. Email marketing is the best way to make sales and someone can actually stay on a list for many years, especially if we do our email marketing the correct way. In other words, make it personal, it creates exclusivity within our tribe. When we build our tribe through email marketing it becomes very personal and people can get a better picture of who we really are which can encourage people to feel secure and potentially buy from us. Making something exclusive and very personal can be a great winner for future sales for many years, this is the power of email marketing.

Knowledge Commerce

What is knowledge commerce? Knowledge commerce is giving people information, often people will pay for knowledge, so for a small fee people will receive accurate knowledge. You can see an example of this, for the past eight years I have been part of two different Internet marketing membership sites, I currently belong to one membership site at the moment. This is a great resource for me, as you know I have been working online since 2007 and over a period of time we can learn a huge amount of knowledge, but, it’s always good to keep up-to-date with the latest how-to’s and more. Email marketing is knowledge commerce, for example, we will often go to a website and fill in a form with a name and email address and receive information, which may be how to do something or a special offer or a series of emails. Knowledge commerce can be given through a Facebook group or as mentioned in the previous paragraph a membership site. So what can we do to give people free knowledge commerce, so often we had to pay for knowledge commerce, but at the same time it’s good to be able to give away knowledge for free, it helps to build relationships.

Free knowledge commerce is for example when someone signs up to your website, so they fill in their name and their email address and in return you give them free information from your website, so you are exchanging free information for their email address. So when someone signs up to our website, we can then potentially market to them and make sales, however, this has to be carried out in the correct way, we build relationships first. We could also give our readers free knowledge through a Facebook group, they could sign up to our Facebook group, and we can give them free knowledge and promote the occasional product that may help to get them to where they want to be.

So how can we make free knowledge commerce work? Blogging and giving away information and offering potential products is a great way to bring traffic to a business and it works, but if we can bring traffic to our website through email marketing, Facebook groups, membership sites etc, you can increase our revenue considerably. We need to think outside the box.

What Not To Do In The Internet Marketing World 2019!

We are going to be looking at the subject of what not to do in the Internet marketing world 2019, in other words, what doesn’t work!

Over the years, I have suffered from something known as “bright shiny object syndrome”, this is something that you do not want to have, I’ve tried it and it’s an expensive hobby! When I started researching Internet marketing back in 2004, I really saw the power of the Internet and the huge potential that it offered, the problem was that I did not know where to start!

I Tried So Many Different Internet Marketing Products

Over the years I tried so many different Internet marketing products, each one promising to be better than the last one, I was desperate to learn, believing that the next shiny object would really be the one that made me successful online, how wrong I was! Let me just remind you that whatever you are thinking, shiny objects do not work and if you have this problem, you need to stop right now as I can help you overcome this terrible expensive problem! In the early days I signed up to so many Internet marketers newsletters to try and gain knowledge, but all this really done was to take my focus away from my primary goal of making money online, we have to have a plan and goals, without a plan we are almost certain to fail!

So What Products Should I Avoid?

I think many of us who have been working online have all received and seen products with great headlines, promising to make huge amounts of money from minimal amounts of work, here are a few types of products that you should avoid, they have some absolutely fantastic headlines!

Pushbutton traffic – Buy this product and you will have pushbutton traffic, a constant flow of traffic just through pushing one button! I’m sorry, avoid pushbutton traffic, there is no such thing, it takes time to get traffic to your website!

Cash cow – This is such a good name, I don’t know who invented it, but it sounds great! How amazing to have a cash cow that just keeps bringing in the money, I’m sorry, a cash cow does not work, it’s a false promise and it will not bring you in cash, please do not buy products with this headline!

Turnkey profits – How wonderful, we just turn a key and the profits come rolling in, how marvellous, how wonderful! Once again, please do not buy, there is no such thing as turnkey profits, any business takes work if you think you can have an online business and not work, please stop reading this page and give up having an online business now!

Maybe you are reading down this list and finding all these words and headlines far too familiar, I have literally come across these phrases time and time again. The good news is that you don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made, there is a much more straightforward way to start working online. You can take a look at my Getting Started Guide, this is a very simple way to get started and it really genuinely works. The problem I had was that I was running to the next shiny object thinking that the next shiny object was going to be my goldmine, it wasn’t and it won’t be yours, I can assure you! You have to have a plan and you need to stick to it, my getting started guide will show you exactly what to do in the right way.

Automated – Now sometimes automated can be good and there are certain things that we can do with our online business and make certain things automated, however, this word can often be misused. There are various pieces of software that can help to automate your business, however just be careful as within Internet marketing automated can often mean scam, do not buy into!

Set up once and watch the money flow into your account – I am sorry, I don’t know of any online business where you set something up and the money flows into account! Admittedly, if we are writing blog posts on a regular basis, then this post to last forever, however, Internet products that have this type of headline do not work, please avoid!

Done for you – This is a type of product that may be used in an upsell, perhaps you just purchased a product and then you will be offered an upsell that says something like, “take the hard work out of your business”! Unfortunately, in general, this is untruthful, once again, please avoid.

Secrets – This is quite a popular headline if someone found something that worked for them really well for themselves, why would they want to tell you!? Secrets normally equals scam product, please avoid.

Cash machine – Now this is a very popular Internet marketing headline, all you do is set up your product and the cash keeps flowing in, I’m sorry, this does not happen! I just put a search into Google out of curiosity for Internet marketing cash machine and the usual suspects come up. Please avoid, your cash machine will not work or do what it says on the label!

Hijack – Now this is another great name, I see this one a lot, in normal cases, I would say avoid, however, I do know of one product that has the name hijack in it and it is actually a good product, but in normal terms, I would say avoid.

0 to $10,000 a day – This is another popular headline that comes up very often and yes, I have heard of some great success stories where people have grown their Internet marketing business unbelievably quickly, but I’m afraid that it is not quite as simple as this! Once again avoid products with this type of headline, it won’t work!

Goldmine – Cash Goldmine – This is another very popular headline for an Internet product, please avoid, there is no such thing as a cash goldmine!

Just 10 minutes a day – I have seen many sales pages and videos where the creator of a product will tell you all you need is just 10 minutes a day and you have your own cash cow, I’m sorry, this is untrue, I’ve tried it, it just doesn’t work, it’s not possible!

Instant traffic – So you have your brand-new website put up with this nice colourful logo and instantly you will have traffic, I’m afraid another lie! You can have the prettiest website the most brilliant logo, but unless you are prepared to add content to your website, I promise you that you will not have instant traffic! Once again, avoid these types of programs?

There are many more headlines that I could bring to you, but I think this is enough to give you the sort of products that I have bought into and they have failed me big time!

The Sad Part Is

The sad part is that these products that I have mentioned above actually sell, spam products make people money, but in my mind, this is not right to sell products like this, I will never try and promote or sell a product that I do not think is legitimate or spammy or just does not work.

Why I brought into scam Internet marketing products?

I would like to talk to you about why I purchased scam Internet marketing products, you’re probably thinking this seems a very strange thing to do, but I perfected buying into scam internet marketing products, big time!

I remember back in 2001 I had my first desktop PC, I knew nothing about computers and I had absolutely no interest in them whatsoever! It was a very good family friend who told me that I needed a computer otherwise I would fall behind if I didn’t embrace technology, he convinced me to buy a PC. So, I purchased a Dell desktop with 20 GB of hard drive, I knew nothing about computers, but thankfully my friend helped me choose the required specification, he did advise me to go to a 40 GB hard drive, but I didn’t really want to spend the extra money. if I remember rightly the price of my new Dell computer complete with printers and speakers etc was well over a thousand pounds, I guess now that this would buy a very powerful desktop PC.

I had to say that this PC frustrated me so much, there were many times when I really felt like literally throwing out the window (I’m not proud of this behaviour) but it was so frustrating! It was so frustrating with the dial-up modem, the Internet to me was almost useless, you had to wait so long for a page to load, a very frustrating process, however, it was useful for sending the odd email. Thankfully, I did get used to using a PC but I certainly had my fair share of frustrations as I had never touched a computer mouse before 2001.

Broadband Changed Everything!

I believe it was in 2004 that I had my first broadband Internet connection, a massive 500 MB, it was absolutely fantastic, all of a sudden websites would load quickly, I could watch a video instantly and still make a phone call! Do you remember the old dial-up, waiting ages for a video to load and of course, not being able to use your phone line to make a call, how times change? To me, literally overnight the Internet had become usable and I immediately saw the absolute massive power of the Internet!

The Power Of The Internet

I couldn’t believe how much broadband changed the Internet and I immediately understood and  saw the power of the Internet, whereas before, surfing the web was just painful! I immediately set out to find out how I could make money online, most people that I spoke to just couldn’t understand how the Internet worked, but I was keen to release the power of the Internet and to take full advantage of this great business tool.

Searching For Information

I remember being really eager to learn about Internet marketing, I was excited, I could see the massive potential. I remember one Saturday spending the whole day researching things like; “Internet marketing”, “how to make money online”, “work from opportunities”.  “teenager makes £1 million in 48 hours” and many other similar headlines like,” become a millionaire in a month by just spending two minutes a day on your PC”! Now I know that some people have been highly successful and done extremely well from the.com boom, there were many many success stories, but a lot of it was being in the right place at the right time.

One Million Dollars

I had a friend who made £1 million in a very short space of time due to finding a product that he purchased and found out that it was an exceptionally good product but very underrated. He spoke to the owner of the product and ended up rebranding the product and literally made him a million-plus! It also helped that Google put him at the top of page 1 for several weeks which was a huge bonus. This is a genuine true story and I believe that even now if you create the right product or repackage an existing product huge amounts of profits can be made. One thing I do know is that there are huge opportunities to make money online, we live in a great time with great opportunities around us. I have never desired to make loads of money because money doesn’t bring happiness, but I do like the idea of being able to my business from home or from anywhere in the world, this is a huge bonus for me.

I’m fortunate that I have been self-employed since 1983 and I’ve been working online since 2007, I still have an off-line business that I really enjoy but I definitely think the Internet is the way forward. In fact,  my off-line business has had a huge boost from leveraging the power of the Internet.

I Purchased Many Scam Products

I was really eager to learn about Internet marketing, but the problem was that although I saw the power of the Internet I had no idea how I could leverage this power so I had to start somewhere. The biggest problem I had was that I was working blind and I didn’t know if these products were genuine or not and to be fair, most of them did not do what they said the package. I tried to look at every product thoroughly and I felt I had to take some sort of action and I did, but the problem was often it was the wrong action and I almost ended up getting nowhere. I literally spent thousands on various products, I don’t know how many products I purchased but certainly a huge number. I didn’t deliberately buy scam Internet marketing products, I was just hungry to make money online.

It took me from 2004 to 2007 to have my first moneymaking website, I actually had my first website in 2004 for my off-line business. I had definitely learnt the hard way to make money online and at a huge financial cost, the only good thing was that I did learn something! In fact, on the first day my website went live, I actually made a sale this was an amazing experience for me, thankfully the website went on to be very successful and I ended up having multiple streams of income from this particular website. The power of the Internet never fails to amaze me.

Thankfully Things Are Easier Now

Did you know that working hard and working blind on something that you see huge potential in, is seriously hard work? My learning progress was very slow when I was buying into scam Internet marketing products, thankfully, this has now changed and you don’t have to do like I did!
