How I Write Genuine Social Media Comments In Seconds

How I Write Genuine Social Media Comments In Seconds
How I Write Genuine Social Media Comments In Seconds

In this blog post, I want to talk about how I write genuine social media comments in seconds using Wispr Flow. I have been using voice-to-text software for many years, partly because I am not particularly quick at typing, and it has always been a useful way for me to get my thoughts onto the screen much faster.

For many years, my main voice recognition software was Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Dragon served me well and enabled me to get considerably more work done than I would have managed by typing everything manually. However, technology has moved on enormously, especially with the development of artificial intelligence, and recently I decided to try Wispr Flow.

At the time of making my video, I had only been using Wispr Flow for around seven days, but I was already impressed by how quickly and accurately it was converting my speech into text. More importantly, I was finding that I could use it in far more places than I had been able to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

There is an important distinction I want to make before going any further. I am not talking about using AI to write social media comments for me. The comments are still my thoughts, my opinions and my words. Wispr Flow is simply allowing me to speak those thoughts rather than having to type everything manually.

Why I Prefer Genuine Social Media Comments

There are now numerous artificial intelligence tools that can generate social media posts, replies and comments almost instantly. I use AI regularly myself and I certainly have nothing against using artificial intelligence as a useful business tool, but I don’t want AI generating every comment that I leave on somebody else’s content.

When somebody has taken the time to write a thoughtful Facebook post, publish something on LinkedIn, upload a YouTube video or write a blog post, I want to read what they have written and reply genuinely. We all have different experiences, backgrounds and viewpoints, and that is what makes a proper conversation worthwhile.

I regularly see comments such as “Great post”, “Thanks for sharing” or “Really useful information”. There is nothing particularly wrong with comments like that, but they don’t really add anything to the conversation. I would much rather mention something specific from the post, add something from my own experience, ask a question or make a useful observation.

I have written about this before in my article on why conversations matter more than content when growing on LinkedIn. Creating content is obviously important, but I believe genuine engagement and conversation are also a major part of building an online presence.

Wispr Flow Helps Me Comment Much Faster

The difficulty with writing thoughtful comments is that it takes time, particularly if you are not a fast typist. If you are active on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and other websites throughout the day, those individual comments and replies can take up quite a considerable amount of time when you add them all together.

This is where Wispr Flow has started to make a real difference to my workflow. Instead of thinking of a response and then slowly typing it out, I can think about what I want to say and simply speak naturally. Wispr Flow then converts my words into text incredibly quickly.

In the accompanying video, I showed an example of a comment that I had written in response to someone else’s post. I said, “Well done, Eddie. It’s always good to hear a success story. However, I know that you’ve worked hard to make it happen.” Speaking a comment like that only takes a few seconds, whereas typing it manually would take me considerably longer.

The important thing for me is that it is still my comment. I haven’t asked an AI chatbot to read the post and produce something that sounds appropriate. I have read the post, thought about what I want to say and then spoken the words myself. Wispr Flow is simply helping me get those words onto the screen much more efficiently.

Voice-To-Text Is Not The Same As AI Writing For You

I think this distinction is becoming increasingly important as AI becomes part of almost everything we do online. Artificial intelligence can be extremely useful, but there is a big difference between using AI as a tool and allowing it to replace your own thinking and personality.

I have previously written about the problem of posting AI slop, where people can produce huge amounts of generic content with very little genuine human input. I also wrote about why AI slop can damage online communities, because if people are using AI to create the original post and then other people are using AI to generate their comments, it starts to make you wonder where the genuine conversation has gone.

That isn’t what I want to do. When I use Wispr Flow, I am still doing the thinking myself. I read what somebody has written, decide what I think about it, formulate a response and then speak that response in my own words. Wispr Flow simply converts my speech into written text.

In that sense, I am using AI technology to make my own communication quicker rather than asking artificial intelligence to communicate on my behalf. I think that is an important difference.

My Experience With Dragon NaturallySpeaking

As I mentioned earlier, I used Dragon NaturallySpeaking for many years and I don’t want this article to make it sound as though Dragon was a bad product. It wasn’t. Dragon helped me enormously over the years and enabled me to dictate thousands of words that would otherwise have taken me much longer to type.

However, I did find that Dragon had its limitations. One of my frustrations was that it wouldn’t always work properly everywhere I wanted to write. There were certain websites and text boxes where I couldn’t dictate directly, which meant that I would have to open Microsoft Word or another document, dictate what I wanted to say and then copy and paste the text into the website.

That method works, but it interrupts your workflow and adds unnecessary steps. I also experienced performance problems with Dragon when using web browsers, which I previously wrote about in my article on how to stop Dragon NaturallySpeaking lagging.

Technology has moved forward considerably since I first started using Dragon, and my experience so far with Wispr Flow has been very different. It feels as though voice recognition has moved into a new generation.

Wispr Flow Seems To Work Almost Anywhere

One of the things that has impressed me most during my first week with Wispr Flow is the number of different places where I can use it. I haven’t tested every website or application available, of course, but so far I have found it much more flexible than the voice recognition setup I was previously using.

I can use Wispr Flow when replying to Facebook posts and comments, commenting on YouTube videos, writing on LinkedIn, using X, formerly Twitter, writing inside online communities such as Wealthy Affiliate, creating blog content, writing emails and working in ordinary documents such as Microsoft Word.

This makes a considerable difference to me because I don’t have to keep opening another program just to dictate something before copying and pasting it into the place where I actually want the text. I can generally click where I want to write, activate Wispr Flow and start speaking.

Why Social Media Comments Matter

It is very easy when running an online business to concentrate entirely on creating new content. We are often being told that we need to publish more videos, more blog posts, more Facebook content and more LinkedIn posts, but social media is supposed to be social and genuine engagement is also important.

When somebody takes the time to comment on one of my YouTube videos, for example, I like to reply where appropriate rather than simply ignoring them. I have written previously about the importance of responding to YouTube comments, because those conversations can be an important part of building a genuine audience.

The same principle applies to Facebook. In my article about how to grow your Facebook Page from scratch, I talked about the importance of engaging thoughtfully rather than leaving meaningless comments everywhere simply for visibility.

Wispr Flow doesn’t change how I approach engagement. It just means that I can carry out that engagement much more quickly while still using my own thoughts and words.

86 Words Per Minute Without Being A Fast Typist

One of the interesting things that Wispr Flow showed me after my first week was that I was averaging around 86 words per minute. For someone who doesn’t consider himself a fast typist, that is a considerable improvement over manually typing everything.

It also showed that I had dictated around 24,500 words during my first seven days. I was actually surprised by that figure, because most of what I had been doing wasn’t necessarily writing huge articles. A lot of those words came from everyday comments, replies, posts and other pieces of communication.

That demonstrates how all those small typing jobs can add up over the course of a day or week. A Facebook reply might only take a minute or two to type, and the same goes for a YouTube comment or a short email, but when you are doing those things repeatedly throughout the day, you can spend a surprising amount of time at the keyboard.

If voice-to-text software allows me to complete those jobs considerably faster, that time saving soon starts to become significant.

I’m Still Learning Wispr Flow

I want to make it clear that this isn’t intended to be a complete Wispr Flow tutorial or an in-depth review of every feature. At the time I made the accompanying video, I had only been using the software for around seven days and was still within the trial period.

There are plenty of settings and features that I haven’t explored properly yet, so I am still learning how everything works. My intention with this article and video is simply to show how I have been using Wispr Flow during my first week and why it has impressed me enough that I intend to continue using it.

I also hope to create some more detailed Wispr Flow training videos as I become more familiar with the software. One thing I noticed when I first started looking into it was that there didn’t seem to be a huge number of detailed videos showing how people actually use Wispr Flow in their everyday online work, so hopefully I can help fill some of that gap as I learn more myself.

Can You Try Wispr Flow Before Paying?

At the time I recorded the video, I was using Wispr Flow’s trial and had been testing it for approximately seven days. One of the things I like is that you have the opportunity to try the software properly and see whether it fits the way you work before deciding whether you want to continue with a paid plan.

If you already use voice-to-text software, or perhaps you have never tried dictation before, the best way to find out whether Wispr Flow suits you is to test it for yourself. You can use my link below to take a look at Wispr Flow and see how it works.

Could Wispr Flow Replace Dragon NaturallySpeaking For Me?

It is still early days, so I don’t want to make sweeping claims after only using Wispr Flow for a week. However, based on my experience so far, I have already found myself moving away from Dragon NaturallySpeaking for everyday dictation and using Wispr Flow instead.

The combination of speed, accuracy and the ability to dictate directly into so many different websites and applications makes my workflow considerably easier. Rather than having to think about whether Dragon will work in a particular text box, or whether I need to dictate somewhere else and copy the text across, I can normally just start speaking where I am.

I also like the fact that it helps me work faster without taking away my own voice. TheĀ  don’t have to ask AI to create a response for me when someone posts something on social media. I can read what they have written, think about it myself and immediately dictate my genuine reaction.

Using AI Without Losing Your Own Voice

I don’t believe that the answer is to reject artificial intelligence completely. Equally, I don’t believe we should automatically use AI for everything simply because the technology is available.

I use AI virtually every day in my online business and it can be extremely useful for research, brainstorming, organisation and many other tasks. However, I have also written about some of the issues in my article I Use AI Every Day, But Here’s The Problem.

There are still many situations where our own experience, knowledge and personality matter. Social media conversations are a good example. If somebody asks me a question, I want to give them my answer. If I disagree with something, I want to explain why I disagree, and if somebody has achieved something worthwhile, I want to congratulate them genuinely rather than asking a machine to manufacture a response on my behalf.

Wispr Flow allows me to do all of those things while spending considerably less time manually typing. For me, that is one of the more useful ways of applying AI technology.

Final Thoughts On My First Week With Wispr Flow

After using Wispr Flow for around seven days, my first impressions are very positive. Voice recognition itself certainly isn’t new to me, as I have been using this type of technology for many years, but what has surprised me is how much it appears to have improved.

The recognition has been impressively accurate in my experience, it is quick, and most importantly for the way I work, I can use it directly in many of the places where I actually want to write. This is particularly useful for social media because it enables me to respond quickly without sacrificing genuine interaction.

Instead of asking artificial intelligence to come up with a generic comment that sounds vaguely appropriate, I can simply speak my genuine thoughts and have them turned into text within seconds. I am still doing the thinking and still choosing exactly what I want to say, but Wispr Flow is helping me communicate those thoughts far more efficiently.
