As Christians We Are Called To Work-Christian Devotional
As Christians, we are called to work-Christian devotional
As Christians, we are called to work, maybe this is something that some people do not want to hear, but it is a very biblical principal to work and very it is also very satisfying.
In 2 Thessalonians 2 9–11 we are told the following:
10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.
I come from a Christian family who always works hard, my father worked full time and my mother looked after the three children and the house, but we all had a duty is to do even as young children! I believe that this gave me good training for the future.
It’s Biblical To Work!
As far back as Genesis God told Adam to work: Genesis 2:15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
This particular passage is particularly meaningful to me as I started off working in people’s gardens before I left school, even though my primary aim was to work on a farm, as I love the outdoors, agriculture and the countryside has always interested me right to this day, I always see creation when I’m in the countryside, it is such a beautiful and wonderful privilege.
It Doesn’t Matter What Your Skills Are
It doesn’t matter what your skills are, God has created you an individual, your someone special in his eyes, he created you uniquely. I believe that God very much wants to use our individuality and uniqueness, You may be someone who works on the land or the building trade or an office job, we are all valuable in God’s eyes. I also believe that every single person on this earth has something to offer. I have to say that I didn’t particularly enjoy school, I could add up and spell at a reasonably early age, which is something, but I certainly wouldn’t say that school was my strong point. One of the best things that ever happened to me apart from being born again was walking out of the school gates for the very last time, I remember it well, it was a wonderful feeling.
However, despite leaving school with very few qualifications I was able to find a job on a farm which was what I wanted, however by the age of 18 I was actually self-employed and working for myself and have been ever since, I’m not expecting this to change in the near future either!
I’m Thankful For The Biblical Teaching That I Was Taught As A Child
I’m very thankful for the biblical teaching that I was taught as a child and although as a teenager and in my 20s I wasn’t living the Christian life, in fact, I was very far away from God and actually didn’t want anything to do with anything Christian! But something I always have done is to work, write to this very day and I hope to carry on as long as I can. I thank God that when I was in my early 30s I met with Jesus big time, he turned my thought life totally around, I have been very privileged to see the miraculous and the awesomeness of God at work! I used to think Christianity was absolute nonsense, but now I have met the King of Kings, I know he is real, I know what is done for me and I know how he’s turned my life around, a wonderful thing!
I thank God for giving each of us the gift to be able to work and that he wants to use us mightily in this world. Maybe you are like me and you were not the most educated person, thankfully we don’t stop learning when we leave school, I think I learned more in one year of leaving school and I did in my first 16 years of life and I think this has probably carried on throughout my life to this day.
You can see from this website some of the things that I have learnt if you’re interested in working online, you can take a look at my getting started online guide, which I recommend to everyone who wants to start an online business.
Enjoy your work
Maybe sometimes your work can be a bit mundane, routines can become like this when I’m in situations like this I try to think about the goodness of God and all the things that he has done. I work online and I also have an off-line business, I love being outside and having the opportunity to see the beauty all around me. I also enjoy having the opportunity to speak to various people and the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus to, it’s so important to enjoy our work and be a light in sometimes a dark place.
God wants to see us doing well
I’m not talking about prosperity gospel, but I really believe that God wants to see his children thrive and I believe that he has given us everything that we need to earn a living. I appreciate that in some countries there are corrupt governments that make it difficult to earn a decent living, this was not God’s plan for his people. Let us do everything with prayer and thanksgiving and be grateful for what God has done for us. Let us also be people who demonstrate the love of God and who are action takers who can live life abundantly.
My question to you today is are you going to live the abundant life and stand on the promises of God?
