What are you thinking?
What are you thinking? Are you thinking what can I do or are you thinking what can Jesus do? Unfortunately, I see too many Christians full of worry and anxiety, there is a name for this and Christians don’t like to hear it, it’s called unbelief!
You can’t but he can!
You can’t, but he can, this is great news! Hebrews 12:1 – 2 says this;
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Before I was born again, I didn’t have the spirit of God living in me, the very day that I said yes to Jesus his Holy Spirit came to live within me, such an amazing thing, he never fails to amaze me what the spirit of God can do. I like what Romans 8: 9 says;
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
I thank God that the day that I said yes to him, my spirit changed to a born-again spirit, my thinking changed, my perspective changed and I have a hope and a future, this is not for a select few people, it is for everyone who desires God says yes to Jesus. I know that being born-again doesn’t mean that all the problems are over, but we do have a hope and we do have a helper and counsellor.
John 14:26 26 But the [a]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
How is your thought life?
It is very easy to let our thoughts run wild and rather than thinking what God can do, humans often have a tendency to think about the problem and in this way the problem magnifies. 2 Timothy 1:7 says that;
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”.
This Scripture is so true, God has given us a very sound mind, he hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, he has given us a new spirit, which is full of power and love. The Message Bible explains this verse in this way;
5-7 That precious memory triggers another: your honest faith—and what a rich faith it is, handed down from your grandmother Lois to your mother Eunice, and now to you! And the special gift of ministry you received when I laid hands on you and prayed—keep that ablaze! God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.
We have to be so careful not to think about what are feelings are thinking, but by what the word of God says.
There have been occasions in my life when my thought life has got the better of me in the middle of the night, I have actually got up in the middle of the night and started praying to break this terrible thought pattern. For some reason, the mind seems to be able to come alive in the middle of the night and think the very worst, but we need to take a God-given authority and rebuke any thoughts that are not of God.
Do you have a war room?
Last night I was watching the Christian film, “War Room”, I have seen this film several times, it is absolutely brilliant and if you have not seen this film, I strongly recommend that you try and see it, it is potentially life changing.
It is about a couple who have a very busy lifestyle, a very nice house and go to church when time permits, but basically it’s all about the material life, they also have a 10 year old daughter whom they have very limited time for, due to their busyness. To cut a long story short, the wife meets an older anointed Christian lady who tells her how to pray powerfully and not to make the same mistakes she did.
The younger lady (Liz) receives so much from the older anointed Christian lady that her family life is greatly turned around. She actually creates an area in the home purely for prayer, which he refers to as her war room and this is where the battles take place and she and her family have become overcomers.
Do you have a war room where you do battle’s in the heavenly realm?
Be an overcomer
I have unfortunately seen many Christians who are not overcomers, this is not God’s plan for our lives, he has given us his word, which has the power to overcome obstacles and move the largest mountains. I believe that the best thing we can do is to have a quiet place where we can pray regularly, in fact maybe we all need a “war room” where we can do battles and be winners!
So let us set our thoughts on things above and what the word says and not go on our own thinking, in other words, only believe!
