How Does Affiliate Marketing Work

In this video, I want to explain to you how affiliate marketing works. Many people that I speak to do not understand how to make money with a website. However, the Internet has changed the face of the way we do business. A simple, straightforward WordPress website can generate an income online through affiliate marketing.

I would like to take you through the process of how affiliate marketing works. I belong to a membership site called Wealthy Affiliate, you can see my personal profile here. It has now been eight years since I first joined joined the Wealthy Affiliate platform in November 2014. Basically, it is a training website that teaches you how to set up an online business and be successful.

If you follow the training and you take action, you will be successful, but obviously, this does take hard work and commitment, just like any other business. I was actually making money before I joined the Wealthy Affiliate platform. One of the things that I really like about the platform is being around like-minded people who share the same interest. The platform gives me access to new training on a very regular basis. It also gives the user the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have about Internet marketing.

Let Me Explain How Affiliate Marketing Works

Let me explain how affiliate marketing works. I will use one of the diagrams in one of the Wealthy Affiliate training modules to explain the process.

So we can see the diagram below; first of all the customer carries out a search for what they looking for. They then potentially come to your website and purchase a product. This could be from any affiliate website, for example, websites like Amazon, eBay, Walmart etc. there are literally thousands and thousands of affiliate programs available for every niche possible.

 

 

Different affiliate programs pay different commissions, so check out what affiliate programs are available and see if the program suits your particular needs. Amazon and eBay are very popular affiliate programs, I do use eBay, but I don’t often use Amazon as an affiliate program.

A Live Demonstration Of Affiliate Marketing

So here I am on to Google search, I’m going to carry out a search for a BCS 740 rotavator. So if I scroll down a bit, you can see that my website is in position four on page 1 of Google. I will click on that link and you can see that I created a blog post a couple of years ago on the BCS 740 wheeled rotavator.

If I scroll down the page, you can see that I have an eBay logo. If I click on that logo, that will take me to eBay; we can see a range of BCS two-wheeled tractors. I will receive a commission if anyone purchases a product from eBay through my link. Once again, commissions vary, depending on the product’s cost and the commission rates at the time.

Let me give you another example; here we are looking at the Stihl blower, it’s a popular product on the website. Here you can see that I have written another blog post on the product. I have an affiliate link for eBay further down the page. You can also see that I have a place to click to buy the Stihl blower.

So when I click on the link, it takes me to the product page on my website, where the customer has the opportunity to buy the product. If I click on the buy now button, that then takes me to another website. If the customer purchases the product, I will then receive a commission.

 

 

How To Find Affiliate Programs

I am now going to carry out a search on Google to look for football affiliate programs. I don’t know why I am searching for football affiliate programs, as I must admit I don’t own anything about football! It’s really, so there is proof that there is an affiliate program for everyone. You can see that there are many different programs available. I also asked for affiliate programs in the UK; you can look for programs that are appropriate to your country.

Now I’m going to carry out another search, this time, I’m going to type in garden affiliate programs UK. You can see that all sorts of affiliate programs are available in the garden niche. There are literally thousands of niches available, which all have affiliate programs.

Wealthy Affiliate platform

Let’s now take a look at the Wealthy Affiliate platform, which teaches you everything you need to know about affiliate marketing. You do not need any more tools, there’s more than enough training to create a successful online business.

I always recommend that people sign up for free, you can sign up without a credit card. By signing up for free, it gives you the opportunity to see if you like the platform. With the free level of membership, you do not have access to everything. However, it does give you the getting started course and the first module of the affiliate Boot Camp course.

It’s great that Wealthy Affiliate gives you free access to the first part of the course and enables you to test it out. However, if you want to be successful, you really need to upgrade to the premium or the plus level. With any business, we need to invest to have true success. The good thing is there’s no pressure, you can try out the free membership for as long as you want.

To Conclude

I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate for the last eight years, I can’t see myself leaving the platform for a long time, if ever. There have been many success stories that have been created through Wealthy Affiliate. Many people have turned their lives around by creating a successful online business. Providing you follow the course, take action and work hard, there is no reason why you cannot be successful.

In my experience, with any business, whether online or offline, we always need to invest to succeed. I have an online and offline business; in my experience, an online business is the cheapest business you could ever set up.
