How To Avoid The Datafeedr API Error

Today I want to talk about how to avoid the Datafeedr API error. I have a photograph to describe more what I am talking about. I’m in a product set, the actual product set is “hose fittings”, you can see below that I have a Datafeedr API error. You can see that I have been adding in negative keywords to a product set. It’s important that every time we add a new negative word, we hit search and then update saved search. If we don’t do this, then it can create a Datafeedr API error.

Product Sets

I’m going to go to my product set page and I’m going to add a new filter. I going to use the product name and the matches filter. You see that we have 885 products in our saved search. I’m going to check the last page in the product set as the first pages of a product set are generally more accurate. You can see that we have a variety of petrol machines in the product set.

Removing Negative Words

Within the product set I going to put a minus sign as we are dealing with negative keywords, we don’t want to actually add them we want to remove them. I am then going to add the word petrol and then I will click on search. You see that we have 865 products now in our latest search, so we have reduced product set by 20 products. I now need to update the saved search. If we don’t do this procedure every time, we stand good chance of getting the Datafeedr API error.

Now I’m going to add the pipe symbol into our negative word search. You find a pipe symbol on the key to the letter “Z”, it also shares the same key as the backslash key. We can see here on the first page that we actually have some unwanted products, I’m going to remove these unwanted hose reels. So, I would have the pipe symbol in place, I’m now going to add the word “reel” and the note click on the search button and then going to update the saved search.

Keep Repeating The Process

Once again, I will repeat the process, I’m going to go to the last page of our product sets. I can see that we have a rogue water pump in the search, so I will add the word pump to my negative words. Once again, I will click on search and then I will click on update saved search.

We can see that the number of products is now reduced by about 140 products, so we are gradually reducing the size and increasing the accuracy of our product set. Let’s do another check and I can see the word watering kit, I’m going to carry out the same process with this word. We are now down to 660 products.

Let’s check our products again, I’m now going to add the word “drill” as we can see a core drill in the product set. Once again, I will repeat the process. We need to make sure that none of the words are related to our originals search as in hose fittings. Otherwise, this could defeat the object of removing these negative words.

We keep repeating this process until you have all our unwanted products out the product set. Once again, it’s important to do the search in the update saved search every time we had a negative keyword. As we don’t want to receive a Datafeedr API error again.

**How To Do More Advanced Product Searches- Datafeedr**

Today, I would like to show you how to carry out advanced product searches in Datafeedr. I also have another blog post and video on the same subject but using a slightly different method. I’m deliberately trying to make shorter videos rather than longer videos to make the learning process easier. I’m on one of my websites, where I have the Datafeedr plug-in installed.

Datafeedr Product Importer

In case you don’t know what Datafeedr is, it imports products onto your website, which then enables you to blog about particular products. It’s a quick and efficient way to populate your website with products. You can see the link, which will enable you to purchase the plug-ins. It’s something that I do recommend and it has saved me a lot of time. I guess I have probably been using the product for around five years.

Product Sets

I’m on my WordPress site, I am in the dashboard, and I am looking at the products and in this case, we are looking at the product sets with garden spades. My search term is “spade”, you can see that I already have a saved search of 324 items. I noticed that there are a few rogue products within the search, so I am going to fine-tune the search and remove these rogue products. Due to the way Datafeedr works, it is possible for rogue products to enter into our product sets. However, I will show you a way to remove these products.

Removing Products From A Product Set

I’m now going to scroll down my list of products that I have in this particular product set. I have already checked the first page and that is fine, but now I’m going to check the second page. As I scroll down, you can see that we have come across a Bosch drill bit that has the word “spade” within it, hence why the product is in our product set. This is not the type of spade that I am looking for! If I click on the product title, you can see that it brings down a deeper product description. Looking at the category section, I can see the word “chisel”, so I want to exclude that word.

If we come back to the top of the page, I have the option to add another filter. There are many various filters that can be added to help with various searches. I’m going to use the category filter and the filter to the right is set to “matches”. I’m going to add the minus abbreviation to my search and then I’m going to add the word “chisel”. The minus abbreviation means that I don’t want any products in the product set with the word “chisel” within the product set.

So we have 324 products within our product set, let’s now carry out another search and see how many products will be removed. So you can now see that we are down to 267 products. Let’s scroll down again and check out our product set for more rogue products. I’m going to start looking for rogue products from page 3 as I know that page 1 and 2 are all okay.

On page 3, I have found another rogue product, which is called a spade drill bit set. Once again, we are going to click on the item, which will bring down a drop-down menu. Let’s have a look in the category section and grab one of the words or phrases. I’m going to take the word “drilling accessories”. We now need to come back up to the category section and we need to use the pipe symbol. On my keyboard, and I guess that it is a standard place, it is next to the “ Z” key. It’s also on the same key as the backslash button. Now I’m going to put in the pipe symbol and then leave a space and put in the word “drilling accessories”. With this word, the software will read it as two words, so we need to add quotes to our phrase, so the software can read it as one word.

We can see now that we are down to 267 products, bearing in mind that our original saved search is still at 324. This is because we haven’t updated the saved search as yet. After clicking on search, we are now down to 217 products. I will check the pages again for any rogue products, but I have a feeling that our pages are now clear of rogue products.

Save Your Product Set

Once I have checked the products, I will then click on update saved search and then I will update the product set. We can then bump up the product set if required.

Learn How To Do More Advanced Product Searches- Datafeedr

Recently I created a video entitled how to carry out advanced product searches with Datafeedr. There is also an alternative way to carry out advanced product searches. I deliberately try and keep my videos short, the previous video was nine minutes and 40 seconds. I want to try and keep videos short to make it easier to learn.

So, in this video, I will show you another way to carry out an advanced search within Datafeedr. This particular product set that we are looking at is entitled mower cables. You can see that within our saved search there are 151 products. Let’s have a look at our saved search so we can check that we have all the correct products in our saved search.

I will check page one first and then work through the pages. I normally find that the first pages are the most accurate pages for search and then the products can potentially become not quite so inaccurate as we get towards the last pages. However, it does depend on your niche and what you are searching for.

As we can see, there are lots of products that we do not want to be included in this particular product set. I’m going to have a look at the second page and check that I have the correct products in the product set. I can see that we have a mains cable extension lead in the product set; this is not something that I want to show.

Add A Filter

We now need to go back to our search page, and I will add a filter to this page. I’m going to add the filter, “product name” and then in the next filter I’m going to set the drop down menu to “matches”. There are many different filters that we can add to these menus; however, on this occasion I want to add the above filters.

First of all, I will add the minus symbol as this is going to be a negative search. In other words, it’s a word that we don’t want to be included in our search. I will then write the word “mains”. So at the moment, we have 151 saved searches, I will click on search and let’s see what search producers. Our search is now down to 147 products. That has now removed any words in our product name with the word “mains”.

Use The Pipe Symbol

There are a number of products in this product set that I do not want to be included in our saved search. So, I’m going to use the pipe symbol, which is next to the “Z” key and also shares the backslash key. Due to the fact that there are quite a few products that I don’t want to be included, I have copied a number of words that I don’t want to appear in our product name search.

I will paste the twelve words and phrases into the correct area. All these words come from the product name. I see that I have one word that is actually two words, the software will actually read it as two words. To overcome this issue, I will put the word “self-propelled” into quotes; in this way, the software will read the word as one word.

Before I created this video, I was going through all the unwanted searches that were not required. So for the purpose for the video I removed all the words and have now pasted words back. In general, I don’t normally have this number of words to exclude from my search. There are some searches where you do not have to remove any products, the searches are actually perfect in some cases.

Remove Unwanted Products

Let’s now click on our search button to see how many unwanted products we can remove. The saved search is currently at 151, I will click on the search button and wait for the result. This may take a few moments as we have got a few products to go through. My server is also being upgraded, so there are a few issues with it today. Sometimes a server can timeout, but not very often. You can see now in our saved search we have 151 products and in the actual search, there is a total of 39 products.

I will just check the two pages of products to check all the rogue products have been removed mower. It looks like our product set just only mower cables within it, which is exactly as I wanted.

Don’t Forget to Save the Product Set!

Our current saved search is saying 151 products, but our actual search is 39 products. I now need to update the saved search. Now our saved search is telling me that there are just 39 products in the saved search. I now need to update the complete product set to save our work.

We also have the option to bump the product set up if required. I normally bump the product set up just to update everything.

How To Create Product Sets In Datafeedr

Today I will show you how to create product sets in Datafeedr. I recently set up a new WordPress website called dogmess.com the website is all about dogs having fun or messing around. I have created a few more videos on creating a new website from scratch. In the videos, I explain the process of setting up the software for Datafeedr.

I have been using Datafeedr for several years now. It’s a plug-in for WordPress websites that allows you to upload various products to your website. It’s also a great way to populate your website with content that you can then blog to each individual product. Datafeedr also takes care of any products that aren’t available and keeps prices up to date. Once Datafeedr is installed and the necessary products have been added we can just leave the software to get on with the job.

Creating Your First Product Set

So, I am in my WordPress dashboard, I am going to go to product sets and then to add product sets. You can see here that I have a place to write a title for my product set. I will call this product set dog beds.

We then need to go down to the product search form, this gives me various filters to add different fields. So, I am going to add a couple of filters, I will add, product name and image. There are many different filters, but these are the filters I generally use. In fact, I will show you later how to set these filters up in the settings, so they appear automatically.

In the product name, I will enter dog bed, I won’t make this plural as this can confuse the search function and bring up the wrong searches. I’m not going to put “dog bed” into the “any field” area as this will probably bring up the wrong type of search. I will now click on search.

My search has found 54 products, I normally scroll down to check that all the products match my search.

Add As Saved Search

On the right-hand corner of the page, there is a checklist to make sure that I have carried out all the necessary tasks. You can see so far I have added a title to the products that I carried out a search for dog beds. I now need to click on the add as saved search. We can now go to the categories area.

Choosing a category

We now need to choose a category for our product set, at the moment you can see that we have no categories added. So, we need to click on add new category, I will make the category name, dog beds. We then need to click on add new category and the dog beds category will be created.

We also have the option to make parent categories if required and subcategories. It’s always good to go to a checklist in the top right-hand corner to make sure that we have carried out all the necessary tasks. We are now ready to publish our first product set by clicking on the publish button.

The Update Queue

When we are uploading multiple products to a website it can take some time to finish the process. The speed of the uploading often depends on the number of products that you are uploading and the type of hosting you use. For this particular website, I’m using fairly basic hosting which is fine for getting started. I do also have a dedicated server for websites that have a lot of traffic.

Configuration Of Datafeedr Product Sets

If we go to the configuration settings for product sets, which is; product sets and then configuration. You can see there are various settings, I’m going to add a few more fields for my search parameters when creating a new product set. There are three fields that I normally use. These are; any field, product name and has image.

I’m going to set the Cron for every five minutes, it’s currently set at every minute which is probably a bit high. It’s something that it’s worth experimenting with especially if you have server timeout issues. You may need to set the Cron to a higher setting. And then of course we have to remember to save our changes.

Let’s Create A Second Product Set

Let’s create a second product set, I’m going to carry out a search for “dog lead”. As the search is showing 51 products, I normally scroll down to check that all the products are correct. Sometimes Datafeedr can throw in rogue products that are not appropriate to that category.

For an experiment, I’m going to carry out the search, “dog lead” but this time I will put the search into the “any field” search bar. We can now click on search and see what comes up, there are 299 products. My guess is that there will probably be some rogue products that are not associated with our category.

As I scroll down the page I can see that there are quite a few harnesses in this particular search. If there were just one or two products, I would leave them in the search and delete the products manually. However, due to there being a considerable number of unwanted items, I will carry out my original search of 51 products. In this instance, I’m better off creating another new category for dog harnesses.

Removing A Product From A Product Search.

Often when we carry out a product search there may be a couple of products that we do not want within the search. We can remove these products by clicking on the red circle to the right of each individual product. See the diagram below.

Let’s Make Another New Category

We can now finish our product set off and create another new category for our second product set. Before we hit the publish button is always good to go through the checklist at the top right hand of the page. In this way, it makes sure that all the tasks have been carried out. Once we have gone through the checklist we can click publish.

Let’s Take A Look At Our Product Sets

Let’s take a look at our products sets; so, if we head over to product sets we can see our two created product sets. It takes some time before the product sets will be uploaded to our website. A lot depends on how fast the hosting is. However, this job only has to be done once.

How To Select Merchants In Datafeedr

Today we are looking at how to select merchants in Datafeedr. In my previous video, we looked at the general setting up of Datafeedr to get started. We are now becoming close to finishing our setup process with Datafeedr. I will explain in the video below how to select merchants in Datafeedr. Let’s Now Select Our Merchants For Datafeedr

So, we are now in the WordPress dashboard, we need to go to the Datafeedr API. We then need to select merchants as shown in the diagram below. You can see here that I have four different merchants showing, but no merchants selected.

So, we are now in the Awin network, you can see that there are several networks available. However, we only want to select one of the networks as the other networks are for a different niche. I will click on Doggy Solutions Ltd which will then add this merchant to the selected merchants. I can remove any merchants at any time if I need to. You can now see that Doggy Solutions Ltd has been added to the selected merchants.

We can repeat the process with the other merchants we want to add. At any time if we sign up for more affiliate programs we can come back and add merchants to the Datafeedr API.

To Conclude

I have been using the Datafeedr software for several years now. I find the software real time saver and a great way of adding products to new websites. Another great feature is the fact that Datafeedr automatically updates all the products and the associated prices.

If a product is no longer available, Datafeedr can automatically remove that product. However, I will often leave old products on my website even if they are no longer available. I look at these products as content on my website and they can also help people find similar products. The software can be set up to leave old products on your website or remove them.

How To Install Datafeedr Onto A WordPress Website

Today I would like to show you how to install Datafeedr onto a WordPress website. Datafeedr is a great way of populating your website within your niche. It’s also a great way of keeping your products up-to-date with pricing and products that are no longer available.

I find the best way of utilising Datafeedr is to populate my website with products and then blog to various products on my website. This is far easier than having to keep checking that products are up-to-date and that there are no broken links etc. if you would like to know more about Datafeedr, please follow this link.

Installing Datafeedr

So I have just installed a new WordPress website, so the first thing that I normally do on a new website is to install Datafeedr.

Before we start installing Datafeedr, first go down to settings and general and check that your website is set for the appropriate time in your country. It is also good to check that your language settings are correct and the date and format are correct. Once you have checked these settings make sure and click on save.

Add The Necessary Plug-Ins

I’m now going to the plug-ins page and then, “add new”, in the search bar, type, “WooCommerce”. Install the plug-in that says, “WooCommerce”. In the meantime, I have opened another tab within the plug-ins page, type in, “Datafeedr”. Here you can see four plug-ins that need to be installed on our website. The first ones being, Datafeedr API, Datafeedr WooCommerce Importer, Datafeedr Product Sets and finally Datafeedr Comparison Sets. Once the plug-ins have been installed on your website, you can then activate the plug-ins.

Connecting To WooCommerce

WooCommerce seems to change the way they connect plug-ins quite regularly. The easiest way is to follow my video above or to just follow the on-screen instructions.

We need to connect our website with WooCommerce and then click on the “Approve” button. Often WooCommerce will ask you to authorise the connection, just click on the “approve” button.

Now Back To The Plug-Ins

We are going to activate all the plug-ins as we will be needing all the plug-ins soon.

There are a few settings that we need to check before we do any more. So, we need to go back to WooCommerce and then click on “settings”. Most of the settings are self-explanatory, just check that your country is set for your particular country. In my case, it’s the United Kingdom. Something else that I had to change was the currency, I have set my currency to pounds as I’m in the United Kingdom. Once you have checked all your settings, don’t forget to click on save settings.

Let’s Go To Products

Under the WooCommerce section, we can see “products”, we then need to go to “attributes”. Let’s go and add some new attributes, the first one will be “Network” and then in the default sort order, we will change to “Name”. Then click on “Add Attribute”.

We need to carry out this process three times, the second attribute will be “Merchant” and the third attribute will be “Brand”. We then change the default sort order to “Name” and then click on add attribute which will save our work.

It’s now time to add our API keys. If we go to Datafeedr API and then “configuration” we can now put in our two API keys. We can find our Datafeedr API keys within our Datafeedr account. We need to make sure and save our changes, as always.

Select Networks

We now need to select our networks, you see that in the screenshot I have marked with a couple of arrows two ways to arrive at “Networks”. You see that there are many networks available, in this example, I am just going to set two networks. One is “Paid on Results” and the other one is “Webgains”.

I’m going to check the box on “Paid on Results” and then add my affiliate ID which is required. In case you’re wondering what your affiliate ID is, this is something that we are given when we signup for an affiliate network. It’s important to put your affiliate ID incorrectly. If you can’t find your affiliate ID then contact your affiliate network. Once again, we need to save our changes.

Hosting Setup

It’s important that your hosting is set up correctly as Datafeedr needs to have the WordPress Cron enabled. You can see that in the diagram below the Cron is currently disabled. If you have access to your hosting, you will need to enable the Cron. Or in my case, I will contact my hosting provider. If you need hosting, you can find quality hosting here.

I have found Datafeedr to be a great time saver and a way of creating and adding products on websites very efficient. It’s very quick to populate a WordPress website with the necessary products associated with any niche. The products can easily be categorised and moved around your website and the great thing is a website is kept up-to-date with the latest products.

Creating Product Sets In Datafeedr 2020

Today we are going to be looking at creating product sets in datafeedr 2020. Over the last few months, I have been creating a series of videos on creating a WordPress website from scratch. In my previous post, we talked about how to select networks and merchants in Datafeedr. In this video, I’m going to show you how to add product sets using the datafeedr WordPress plug-in.

The datafeedr WordPress plug-in enables you to populate your website with content very easily. It’s possible that in a very short period of time your website can be loaded with content. However, you will need to write blog posts and link to the various product pages to gain traction on your website.

One of the many great things about the data feed plug-in is its ability to update products automatically. For example, if there is a product change of price or something similar, the product will automatically be updated. Or if the product is no longer available it will automatically be removed, unless you create a rule that allows a product to stay on your website.

Datafeedr can also be used for price comparison sets and much more. The functionality that data feeder offers is huge, why not take a look at the software?

So, let’s take a look at creating product sets in DataFeedr 2020.

In the previous video and blog post we were adding networks and merchants to our WordPress website. The great thing is that these networks and merchants can be added at any time. However, you must be signed up to the various networks merchants before trying to add them to Datafeedr.

Creating Your First Product Set

So, if we go to our WordPress dashboard and go to product sets and then add new. Obviously there are no product sets to show at the moment as this is our first product set. Once we have added the first product set there will be a section that says, “All Product Sets” and the product sets will not be showing empty.

So, if we go to “add new” we need to name our product set, I’m going to name the product set, “flower seeds”. You can name the product set at this stage anything you like. However, the name needs to be something relevant to your product set.

On the right-hand side of the product set page, there is a list of items to carry out which will create your product set. As you can see on the video, our first list of to-do items has a line through as we have completed the first task.

Adding Different Fields

Datafeedr allows us to create different fields when we are creating a product set. I normally just use two or three fields as I find it is adequate and works well for finding the necessary product feeds. I have selected “any field” and “has image”, I will sometimes use “product name” depending what comes up in my search results. It can sometimes be a bit of trial and error, the more you use the software, the easier it gets.

Add a Title for Our Search

We are now going to add a title for our search, my title is going to be “flower seeds” as this is precisely what I am looking for. Sometimes when I’m carrying out a search, I may experiment using slightly different titles, even making word plural can make a difference. You can practice as much as you want with different words and using different fields. We are now going to click on the search button and see what comes up, I have no idea how many items Datafeedr will find.

Our search has found 746 products on eight pages, that’s a lot of flowers!

Carry Out A Search

Deleting Unwanted Products

Sometimes unwanted or rogue products will appear in a search, these can be very easily removed or added to our product set. Simply scroll down the products and check that your products meet your search criteria. Repeat the process on all the pages. If you find a rogue product, simply click on the right-hand side, on the red button, where it says, “block product” and this will put the rogue product in “blocked products” section.

If we want to put the “blocked product” back in our product set, click on the tab “blocked products” and you’ll see the blocked products, click on the “unblock product” and your product will be returned to the product set.

Add As Saved Search

We now have to click on the “add as saved search” button. If we don’t click on this button, we will not save our product set. So your product set will not be able to upload to your website. I have actually forgotten to save a product set several times; I then end up with empty product sets!

Create A Category

We now have to go and create a product category, you can find the categories on the right-hand side of your product page. For this category, we are going to create a category called “flower seeds”. We don’t have any parent categories at the moment, so we just save our category. It’s important to name this category relevant to your products as this will be seen on your website.

Now Publish Your Product Set

Now we are already to publish our product set, click on the publish button and your products will be waiting to be uploaded automatically.

Bumping Up The Product Set

We are now going to go to product sets where you can see that we have one product set. It takes time for products to upload so we have the option to bump up a product set.

If we check the box next to the product set and then use the drop-down menu and go to; “bump product set with priority” this well tell the cron to upload the product set. This may not happen immediately, just be patient! We have to remember that there are a lot of products to upload, 746 to be precise. This will take some time.

I am looking at my product set 12 hours later and it is 85% complete, so we are nearly there. The initial product sets take time to upload. Once we have all the product set up, it’s a much easier task as the product sets are just updated automatically.

How To Select Networks And Merchants In Datafeedr

Today we are looking at how to select networks and merchants in Datafeedr. I’m making a training series of videos on setting up a brand-new website and documenting the procedure. In this video, I’m describing how to set up various affiliate networks and merchants within Datafeedr.

So Let’s Get Started

So I am in datafeedr and networks in the WordPress dashboard. In the video you can see various networks that the Datafeedr platform is connected with, I’m sure you will recognise some of these networks. I’m now going to connect to with some of the networks that I am already associated with. Just remember that you must create an account with each of these networks before you can use the networks in Datafeedr.

Most networks are fairly straightforward to sign up to, it’s good to sign up in advance as some programs take a few days to come back to you. Over the years I have had very few networks refuse me. Just make sure that the networks have your particular niche.

So now I am going to save the selected networks that I require for this niche. The great thing is that I can come back at any time and add another network, should the need arise. Once we have saved our networks then we can look to selecting the required merchants.

Selecting Merchants

So now we need to scroll up to the top of the page and select merchants. We are still in the Datafeedr > Networks area in the WordPress dashboard. You can see in the video the three merchants that I have joined, ClickBank, Paid on Results and Webgains, once again, I can go back at any time and add more merchants.

I am now going to carry out a search for merchants that I will be using for my website. Simply start typing in the box and the merchants will appear, as I mentioned earlier, you must be approved by these merchants before you start.

I am searching for Sutton seeds and sure enough, this appears in the list. This has now been added to my selected merchants. Just for an experiment, I typed plants into the search box, but this didn’t return any search results. You need to search by the merchant’s name rather than the type of product. You can search for various networks individually on the merchant’s platform.

So, I am now adding Dobies, Greenfingers and Greenhouses direct, so I have four merchants, including Sutton seeds. I will come back and add some more merchants after I have completed this video.

Creating A Product Set With Datafeedr

In this video, I will show you how to create a product set with Datafeedr, it really is very straightforward indeed and if you follow this video it should be very easy for you to copy.

You can see my previous post about why I am going to start using Datafeedr again.

First of all, in your WordPress dashboard go to, “create a new product set”, then name your product set, this is purely for your own reference, it won’t show at all on your website.

I normally choose from the drop-down menu, “any field”, “product name” and has image, sometimes I will just use “any field” or just the product name, it is a bit of trial and error sometimes. I also add in the drop-down menu, “has image”, it’s good to include images in our shop as humans often search by image.

We then click on the search button which will carry out a search on a particular subject, we can run down the list of products that we don’t want in a product search and then delete them one by one. Sometimes when we carry out a product search Datafeedr will find the wrong products, which is fully understandable. There are other ways of omitting the search results, but personally, I find it easier to delete products as we go along.

Once we have chosen our products we then need to select a category, we may also want to select a parent category to have our products sorted correctly.

We then need to publish our product set, it really is as simple as that.
